Westborough Historical Society Open House Sunday

WESTBOROUGH, Mass. – Join the Westborough Historical Society for their open house on Sunday, Jan. 29 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Interested locals can view hundreds of years of Westborough’s history at the Sibley House, 13 Parkman St.

The guided tours at the open house are open to anyone interested in learning more about the Town of Westborough, Historical Society President Cary Mulrain said.

WESTBOROUGH, Mass. – Hastings Elementary School wants to cure your cold weather blues with their 5th Annual Winter Festival. The event, sponsored by the Hastings Parent group, is on Saturday, Feb. 11 from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Hastings Elementary School, 111 East Main St.

The event boasts something for everyone, including games, crafts, food and live music, as well as a silent auction and basket raffle. Westborough May Consider Ad Space on Public Vehicles

WESTBOROUGH, Mass. – The Board of Selectmen may be discussing something unconventional soon: putting advertisement bumper stickers on public vehicles.

Selectman Ian Johnson presented the idea to the Board after he’d heard the town of Littleton was trying it out. The advertisement space could be sold to generate revenue for the town.

“Littleton is the only municipality that I know of doing something like this and it seems to be successful on a limited basis,” Johnson said. “But it has paid for the cruiser it’s on already.”

Police to Participate in Mutual Aid Agreement

WESTBOROUGH, Mass. – Westborough will soon participate in a mutual aid agreement with the Central Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council according to Westborough Police Chief Alan Gordon.

According to Gordon, the collaborative started three years ago and consists of many towns throughout Central Mass. The mutual aid allows Westborough to utilize services from police departments in other towns.

“It makes resources like SWAT and K-9 to Westborough. I’m not anticipating using a lot of these services but we will reach out for motorcycle units,” Gordon said.

Local Helps Delaware Cheerleading Team In Division Championship

WESTBOROUGH, Mass. – The University of Delaware cheerleaders finished second in the Division I championships with the help of Westborough resident Michael Larocca.

Larocca, a finance major that graduated during Winter Commencement ceremonies earlier this month competed with the team.

"Being able to compete with my teammates allowed me to get to know them better. I've made a lot of friends and I know I will stay in contact with them," Larocca said.

Suspect Arraigned in Not Your Average Joe's Robbery

WESTBOROUGH, Mass. – Westborough Police have arrested a Worcester man who is a suspect in the Not Your Average Joe's New Year's Day robbery.

According to a statement released by Police Chief Alan Gordon, Miguel Martinez, 40, of 4 Hathaway St. #1 in Worcester was arrested Tuesday on a warrant for a minor motor vehicle violation and a charge of armed robbery while masked.

WESTBOROUGH, Mass. – Westborough eight grader Remy Zais got the experience of a lifetime when she participated in Project 351. Acting as an ambassador for Westborough and Gibbons Middle School, Zais traveled to Boston during the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday weekend to participate in a community service initiative.

Police, Fire, DPW Budgets Presented to Selectmen

WESTBOROUGH, Mass. – The Board of Selectmen started the process of approving the fiscal year 2013 budget Tuesday, approving budget requests from the Police Department, Fire Department and Department of Public Works .

Police Chief Alan Gordon reported that he was able to reduce the budget this year because of several retirements in the department. Three officers at the top of their pay scales, two with bachelor’s degrees and one with a doctorate’s degree, retired leaving room in the budget.
