WESTBOROUGH, Mass. – Join the Westborough Historical Society for their open house on Sunday, Jan. 29 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Interested locals can view hundreds of years of Westborough’s history at the Sibley House, 13 Parkman St.
The guided tours at the open house are open to anyone interested in learning more about the Town of Westborough, Historical Society President Cary Mulrain said.
“During the open house, the Sibley House is open free to the public,” Mulrain said. “We want to give people the chance to see the history that they might not have taken the time to look at before.”
The historical society generally has these open houses every month except during the summer. They are usually on the last Sunday of every month.
“There are some months that are quiet but then there are other months we get a lot of people,” Mulrain said. “Sometimes we even get people from other town’s who are interested in coming.”
On Monday, Jan. 30, residents are welcome to come back to the Sibley House for their event called, “The Challenges of Ice Harvesting.” The program, presented by Ken Ethier, will describe the precise, and often dangerous, process of procuring ice in the 19th and early 20th centuries.
Ethier will display antique ice harvesting tools and describe the cultivation of the ice field, harvest scoring and cutting, and transport. The event is open to the public at 7 p.m.
