WESTBOROUGH, Mass. – The Westborough Recreation Department will suspend a few of its programs for the week of the public school’s February vacation. The programs will continue as normally scheduled the next week.

According to program coordinator Karen DeSiata, some of the programs skip the week of school vacation because attendance drops.

“We have noticed that a lot of people go away during vacation, so we just change the schedule a bit,” DeSiata said.

Many of the programs that are postponed are child events. If they are partnered with another organization, they generally get rescheduled during vacations, DeSiata said.

“For programs like ice skating that we partner with another organization, they typically skip that week because they notice that a lot of people don’t show up so they’d rather just move it to the next week,” DeSiata said.

Several adult programs are still scheduled for the week of school vacation. Things like Jazzercise, volleyball and basketball for adults are still scheduled Monday, Feb. 20 through Friday, Feb. 24.

Any program that is usually scheduled to take place in a Westborough Public School is either canceled or moved to the Forbes Municipal Building Gym.

The Westborough Recreation Department’s spring and summer programs will be announced soon.
