WESTBOROUGH, Mass. – The Shrewsbury boys hockey team shut out Westborough on Wednesday night, with a 4-0 victory over the Rangers.
Shrewsbury senior Matt Bodley scored the first goal of the night and the only goal of the first period. Coach Steve Turnblom said Bodley was one of the players that stood out during the game.
“We played a pretty good game tonight and Matt did really well,” Turnblom said. “I think he scored his eighth goal tonight.”
Shrewsbury (2-3) dominated the second period, scoring three goals making the score 4-0. Seniors Randy VanBeekom and David Duva each scored goals during the second period. Bodley scored his second goal on a power play while Westborough (3-2) senior Nick Ferretti sat in penalty box for crosschecking.
Shrewsbury’s freshman goalie Chris Shelby also got his first shutout as a Colonial.
Westborough Coach Tom Temple said that despite entering the game with a 3-1 record, this game was a little flat.
“We didn’t play our game,” Temple said. “We came out flat and we didn’t skate as well.”
Despite letting in four goals, Temple said goalie Ryan Venditti made some big saves tonight.
“Ryan is a great goalie and a good kid. He didn’t have much support tonight. He had a lot of shots on him,” Temple said.
Shrewsbury’s next game will be Wednesday, Jan. 4 at 8 p.m. against Wachusett at the North Star Rink, 15 Bridle Lane in Westborough. Westborough’s next game will be Friday, Dec. 30 at 7:10 p.m. against Hopkinton at North Star Rink.
