WESTBOROUGH, Mass. – Members of the Westborough High School Girls Varsity Tennis Team are participating as community volunteers at the Fed Cup Kids Fest Day on Wednesday, Feb. 1. The Fed Cup, featuring the best professional female tennis players in the world, will play at the DCU Center in Worcester, Mass. this weekend.
The Westborough Girls Varsity team will be expected to operate and manage several instructional and activity stations during Kids Fest. The Westborough Girls were chosen from a number of volunteer applications to help with this exciting and worthwhile effort.
“This is a rare opportunity to rub elbows with some of the greatest players in the game while perhaps igniting some future interest in the sport from some children who might not otherwise be introduced to tennis,” Coach Mary Schwartz said.
The team has committed itself to participation in at least one community service goal per year. Past efforts have included a successful fundraiser to battle pancreatic cancer and to support a battered women’s shelter. This year is sure to provide a number of memorable moments for the girls while they do some more good for their community.
“As a team, we’re all really excited to help out the community in an activity that we love to do,” Senior Captain Ali Strand said.
The Williams’ sisters and Governor Deval Patrick will be joining the Westborough High School team at Kids Fest.
